Celebrating women and their powers

The picture of this powerful woman was taken just after birth. I see her pride, I see her relief and I see her accomplishments. This picture was taken by a very proud partner and father who was very much relieved that the birth of his second son went well.

When I saw Lorraine's photo for the first time, I was amazed. I couldn't stop staring. What a powerful picture just after giving birth. The strength of women is completely underestimated.

The story behind the photo

Lorraine's birth went reasonably well this time. Compared to the birth of her first born this birth was "easy". When Lorraine gave birth the first time everything went wrong. Without going into details, it was a birth from hell. Despite the experience of her first born, Lorraine got pregnant again. All the memories from her first experience came back and she prepared herself to go through that hell again. But look at her picture. This birth went much better and you can see it in her picture. Knowing Lorraine's story you can see this birth was completely the opposite of her first born and it was time to heal from that horrendous experience of her first born.

Everyone's journey is different

When someone has given birth most of us tend to focus on the baby. Of course they are cute and adorable and everyone wants a cuddle but what about the mother? It is not just the birth of the baby we should be celebrating. We should also be celebrating the power of the woman who accomplished it. For some women it took years to get pregnant. Some women can show us boxes of needles they needed to inject to get where they are now. On other journey's women have experienced a loss of their mother, sibling or partner. We often don't pay attention to the story within the journey but they play such a vital role in the mothers life.

How can we celebrate women after birth?

By giving them a stage. Listen to them, care for them. Make them feel loved, make them feel special. Remind them that their baby is born because of their hard work. Because she kept fighting, because she was determined and because she was strong. Praise her, adore her and share her story. Make sure she knows what she did is exceptional.
